| |
Pluto was attacked from around 08:30am this morning from many thousands of IP addresses. Our automatic scripts to block these kind of attacks worked, but unfortunately too well - causing the servers IPTables to become flooded with too many new rules.
This type of problem is extremely hard to solve as not only are the attacks coming from so many different IP addresses but our own firewall software had so many rules to check through before accepting a connection that it itself may have been blocking legitimate connections.
The issue is ongoing although we have regained control of the firewall software and are now trying to mitigate the attack.
I apologise to all that are affected, I hope everyone can understand that this situation was out of our hands entirely - DDOS attacks are something every host is at the mercy of and there are very few measures that can be taken against them.
Thanks,
