I've had a look around but couldn't see this issue noted elsewhere, so hopefully it's just me...!

The website I admin has randomly started 403-ing when trying to complete the registration process. I tired to log into the CPanel today to see if I could work out what's going on, but I'm now getting a 403 on the login page for Cpanel ( https://85.13.238.130:2083/login/  ). My site URL is www.nusection.com.

What should I do?!

Ta.

Hi,

403 errors are generally caused by incorrect permissions being set, I haven't been able to see one myself from browsing around your site, could you please give me a direct link to a page that is causing a 403 so I can investigate further.

Regards,

Darryl

If you attempt to register (link is http://www.nusection.com/component/option,com_comprofiler/task,registers)  instead of going to the registration complete page it throws up a 403.

However more importantly the CPanel login page is also 403ing. Link is https://85.13.238.130:2083/login/

Hi,

When I attempt to register I simply get a javascript popup telling me my session has expired. No 403 errors. The cPanel login link you supplied works for both Darryl and I.

Thanks,

Andrew

How strange.

I'm still getting the 403 on the CPanel login, as is a colleague in Norwich (he works for a totally seperate company on a completly seperate network).

Any ideas? I'm currently using IE6 on a laptop, but can try different browsers/versions etc when I get back to my main PC later.

Hi,

Is the 403 after you login or simply when you try to visit the login page?

Andrew

I get teh 403 instead of seeing the normal login page - so no log in attempt or any other user input.

Hi,

That is strange as that's not the behaviour exhibited here. Could this be due to the fact you're going via an SSL connection which uses a self-signed certificate? Perhaps you have IE setup to not allow connections to a server via SSL when the certificate is self-signed? Can you access the non-SSL cPanel link: http://85.13.238.130:2082/  ?

Thanks,

Andrew

I've just asked a couple of friends to try the link to teh CPanel log in, and they're both getting the following error, although they can still access the log-in screen if they cancel out of the error:

Secure Connection Failed

85.13.238.130:2083 uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not trusted because it is self signed.
The certificate is only valid for jupiter.solardns.com.

(Error code: sec_error_untrusted_issuer)

Nail. Head. Direct hit!

non secure link goes through fine - must be a policy on this work laptop, it'd never even occured to me that the 403 could be client-side generated.

Thanks for your help, now I can go have a dig about to fix my other bug.

On the https link I get the following under firefox:

Secure Connection Failed
85.13.238.130:2083 uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not trusted because it is self signed.
The certificate is only valid for jupiter.solardns.com.

(Error code: sec_error_untrusted_issuer)

and under IE I get:

There is a problem with this website's security certificate.

The security certificate presented by this website was not issued by a trusted certificate authority.
The security certificate presented by this website was issued for a different website's address.

Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.
