A Few Questions Before Signing Up

Hi,

I currently run a club web site with the following setup. Wordpress (customised theme) installation on a CGI server at my ISP (PlusNet) on my own account. This has a domain registered with Simply (Namesco) which is forwarded to the Wordpress root directory on the CGI Server. Email to the domain is also forwarded onto appropriate accounts for club members.

What I want to end up with is: the site still running on Wordpress but hosted separately (hosted by nethosted) with the domain going directly to the Wordpress root as before but no forwarding involved. Email still forwarded on rather than club members having to log onto a different server to normal to receive mail.

While setting this up, and until I'm sure the site is working properly on the new hosting server, I want the original site to still work properly and the domain to still point to it, then be able to move the domain to the new site when its ready (transfer or DNS, not sure which is best).

I may also possible want to add gallery, forum and ecommerce but at a later date.

My questions are: are all the above possible? If so, what is the best way to keep the original site going and then repoint the domain afterwards? Would any addons be necessary for any of the above. I am considering the Plus plan as the site is growing rapidly and I want room for expansion.

Thanks for your interest in NetHosted!

I can see no issues with what you are hoping to do. You should simply leave your domain name as is, you can use our service with a temporary URL we provide for a few weeks after signing up. This will enable you to fully install all software you need and test it out before moving your domain over as you require. Moving the domain over is easy all you need to do is update the nameservers to the ones we provide (there are other ways, but this is simplest).

No addons are required for this.
