A few questions before taking the plunge

I'm pretty close to signing up for either the adslguide promo or the pro plan and have a few questions. I currently have a domain (mydomain.cc) at the mo registered with register.com and I host my own www and mail services.

1. I am under the impression nethosted can't register .cc domains. This isn't a problem, I'd just like clarification for the future when the renewal comes up.

2. If I use nethosted to take over the DNS records can I still have multiple MX records with different priorities? I was browsing the cPanel demo but couldn't work out a way to do that.

3. The adslguide package says 'host 5 domains' and park 10 domains. The pro plan says park 10 and 3 addons. How do the 5 host and 3 addon domains compare? I think I understand the addon domains from the cPanel description but I'm not quite clear on the difference in terminology.

4. Which part of the cPanel would I use to keep some subdomains pointing to my own server (netmail.mydomain.cc) and leave the others (www.mydomain.cc) pointing to the nethosted servers? I haven't used (or even seen) cPanel before today so please bear with the newbie Qs!

Thanks for any info.

Nosh

Nosh,

1. We can only register domains that ENOM themselves can register.

2. Yes you can have as many MX records as you like. The zone editor is quite simple in this respect.

3. Andrew will have to answer this one.

4. You would use the dns zone editor.

Addon domains allow you to host seperate sites, all parked domains can do is mirror your main domain.

Thanks for the responses. I didn't see the DNS zone editor in the cPanel demo on the site and upon further investigation it seems as if it is part of the web hosting manager (WHM) which is only available to resellers from what I can tell. Is this correct?

Nosh, this is correct, however we can make any changes you need to your Zone file simply submit a ticket. You can change your primary MX via cPanel however.

I've signed up, got my details etc but the emails I have received say I have to point my domains nameservers to ns1... whereas I was under the impression I could just edit my own dns settings to point www.mydomain.cc  [and any other (sub)domains] to 83.142.27.234.

You can, but most people wouldn't know how to do this and just want to change namservers to ours!

So is there any way to stop the email reminders to make nethosted the primary and secondary DNS for my domain. I have the DNS setup in cPanel as I want it (without nethosted doing anything for now) so don't need the reminders.
