OS X on your PC? Apple Hardware is no more? My new(ish) PowerBook obsolete?

It makes sense for Apple to buy from a big manufacturer. They get all Intel's expertise and presumably a good price. i know IBM are a big company but Intel probably make more chips.

I never got into the whole Mac thing. Restricted software choice, difficult to fix or upgrade and more expensive. Hmmm

If Apple opens up to the mass market and stops using proprietary stuff I can see theire sales taking a hunge jump skywards.

I know a fair few that would use OS X if it was available on x86

well I'd guess if its true we'll nly have to wait till monday evening to find out

Having said that I read an article over at anandtech where the guy just benchmarked raw cpu power of the g4, g5, xeon and opteron and the opteron came out 10 times faster at everything until the g5 altivec unit was used on one test.

So the G5 is a pretty weak CPU unless you really have highly optimised code written for it. (this is from a server perspective - it wasnt so weak on workstation apps).

So if ever you decide you want to use a nice apple xserver get ppc linux installed in place of os x server

It has just been reported that AMD has outpaced Intel with its new 64bit Dual Core chip so I guess if you are looking at raw CPU power, perhaps AMD is the way to go?

Steve Jobs has comfirmed it! Every single version of Mac OS X has been built for both PowerPC and Intel, it's just the Intel versions have always been kept a secret

OS X for your PC? Looks that way

Andrew
