I'm a bit of a website newbie (as I'm sure you've noticed). I just happened to check my AWstats this morning to find I'd used over 2Gb This seems to have happened overnight (although I may be reading the stats wrongly), have you any idea why - hardly anyone visits my site normally 10 - 50 per day maybe. Thanks. _________________ Crime fiction writer and prehistorian:

Nicola,
Looking over the logs you seem to have experienced a redirect loop somewhere on your blog last night from 00:11 until 09:10 this morning. This is what has used your bandwidth. I can't reproduce this at all when loading your blog so it's not clear what has triggered this, it's likely to be a WordPress bug with one of your plugins.
Thanks,

The only widget I changed was on yesterday afternoon when I put an RSS widget thingy on the layout - sorry not technically aware of its real name nor what it did - although it seems it may have been the casue? But I didn't alter this at 00:11 but I did just take it off this morning (after seeing the logs) as except for the new post it was the only change I could think of.
I'm sorry to be such a problem! Do you think this was to blame? _________________ Crime fiction writer and prehistorian:

Nicola,
I believe this is the candidate
It makes sense really, no problems before this morning. You add the new module and then this happens and only stops when you remove it.

Has it stopped then?
Lucky I checked then, sorry to have caused more trouble! I was actually going to try and find out how the best way to back up the WordPress blog as I'd read someone's post about being hacked. Also I'd read something about 'child themes' and thought I might have a go (fair warning ) but thought - back up first!
Could you advise the best/easiest way to back up the website and/or blog? _________________ Crime fiction writer and prehistorian:

Yes it stopped at 09:10 this morning!
The best way to backup your whole site is to login to cPanel and use the Backup Wizard tool.
Thanks,

I thought so, I'd looked at it before but this line 'You cannot restore Full Backups through your cPanel interface' confused me. What good is it then? Should I do a Full or Partial or both? Sorry to be really dumb. _________________ Crime fiction writer and prehistorian:

Hi,
I'd recommend a full backup. You can't restore them, but we certainly can

Next really silly question, what do the backup destinations mean? If I choose 'home directory' does that save it to your servers and if so how do I get it onto my hard-drive or don't I want to? _________________ Crime fiction writer and prehistorian:

Hi,
Home directory saves it to the server yes, you can then download this via cPanel file manager or FTP to your computer. We recommend that you always keep a backup of your sites, we do keep comprehensive backups ourselves but it can never do any harm. The backup file will have the time and date in the filename so you should be able to spot it.
Regards,
