Hi
Couple of (simple) questions about the ADSLguide special:
Does the package come with scripting support (e.g. PHP?) If PHP, what version is it?
I have some domain names already registered that I'll be using - can I transfer them here as part of the ADSLGuide package? |

Hi,
Thanks for your interest in NetHosted! Yes PHP is installed on all of our servers. You'll be on a server that uses PHP 4.4.2.
You can simply point your domain to our servers or you can indeed transfer it into our care for a fee (typically £10).
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi
Many thanks for the reply. I have two domains that I'd like to transfer, so presumably that would be £20 on top of the £45?
Also, the reason for the transfer is because at the moment I use framed forwarding to redirect from the domain name to the webspace where the sites are held - which will cause problems (I imagine) for google, as there is no actual content at the domain - just the frame page. Would transferring the domains here rectify this (i.e. with the default page set correctly, the content would appear on the domain to google).
Also, I'd like to change the registrant details (i.e. the owner details) on transfer, or after - is this possible?
Sorry if the explanation isn't very good.
Many thanks

Most non .uk domains cost £10 to transfer into our care, this does include an extension of one year on the life of the domain. .uk domains however vary between £5 and £15 for the transfer depending on the domain itself.
If you transfer the domain into our care you will be able to update the contact details on the domain. Also on our hosting there is no need for framed forwarding your domain will point directly to your webspace and therefore all search engines will be able to pick up your site content.
Hope that helps,

Hi Andrew
Thanks again for the help - yet more questions:
Both the domains for transfer are .com domains, not .co.uk - this looks to make it more complicated (I can't find out how to change the IPS tags myself) - the domains are registered with Telivo, should I contact them to initiate the transfer?
Can I sign up for the hosting then transfer the domains afterwards, or does it all need to be done at the same time?
Many thanks

Si,
You need to sign up before we can transfer domains, as we need to invoice you for the transfers!
.com transfers are the simplest actually, there is no IPStag to change (that's a .uk thing). The only thing you need to ensure is that the domains are unlocked and that you have access to the email address listed as the admin email address on the domain so you are able to verify the transfers. Once that's sorted out if you let us know we can initiate the transfers.
Thanks, and welcome in advance to NetHosted!

Hi Andrew
Many thanks - just signed up.
One more quick question - whilst I wait for Telivo to unlock the domains (I have to fax them with the request, so this will probably not happen until Monday), can I change the nameservers with Telivo to point to the nethosted addresses to achive the same result in the meantime?
Many thanks
Simon. |

You should have your welcome email now, your account has been setup. Yes go ahead and change the nameservers now to get your domains working on our servers ASAP!

Hi Andrew
I've changed the nameservers on the domain to the nethosted ones - I'm slightly confused (if it wasn't obvious, I don't know what I'm doing really!) - if I do an nslookup on the domain (www.valetmy.com), I get the IP address returned that was in the welcome email - but when I browse to the site, I still have the old framed forwarding pages (i.e. the telivo stuff).
Is this just because I don't understand how DNS works?
Ta

The framed forwarding would have to be removed at your domain registrars. I however don't get taken to one of our servers when I go to www.valetmy.com yet. Nameserver changes take at least 6 hours in my experience to take effect.

Hi Andrew
That's why I was confused - nslookup resolves valetmy.com to 85.13.238.2, but browsing to it takes me to the existing site (which is a redirect) - i.e.
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: valetmy.com
Address: 85.13.238.2
Aliases: www.valetmy.com
But are these essentially 2 different things?
Thanks

Well what you could be seeing is your browser cache of the site? Or indeed your ISP could be caching the site IP?

Ah - sorted.
ipconfig /flushdns appears to have sorted it.
Thanks Andrew! |

[update] I can now see your site fine via my browser. By that I mean your domain now points to our server and is therefore getting content from our server for it (currently nothing!)
[update2] I see you beat me to it, glad it's working for you too!

Thanks again Andrew.
Last question - (at least in here... I'll go to the support forum from now on!) - can I change the index pages (i.e. I want main.shtml to be the default page on the site).
Thanks
