Hey there,

I thought other people in the future may be interested in this so I'll post it here.

Lately I've been running a few services off my home computers, and even went to the point of renting a cheap VPS from another host, so that I could run things that nethosted currently do not necessarily offer (things like Apache2, Subversion, server daemons for various projects I work on now and then).

I've been thinking about consolidating everything into just renting a dedicated server, however I remember a while ago Mark (I think?) mentioned that the datacentre had some restrictions on things that were allowed to be run (it was IRC daemons in that case).

Obviously I wouldn't want to rent a dedicated server only to find I can't run certain services. So I wonder is it possible I could get a list of things that aren't allowed?

Mike

Mike,

I'll check to see if the policy has changed at the data centre.

Mike,

Services wise you can run anything that is legal in UK law. Common sense has to be applied also: so no spamming, no launching denial of service attacks etc (not that I suspect you would do such a thing!).

I'm just awaiting clarification from the boss at the datecentre re: IRC servers as there seems to be some confusion amongst the various techs. He wont be in until later today.

Andrew

Mike,

He has confirmed that IRC servers are not allowed on their network.

Hi,

Do you offer any VPS services as I am currently looking for a good one and your customer service is brilliant.

Regards,

Hi,

I'm afraid we do not offer VPS services at this time.

Thanks,

Andrew
