Okay... That is quite an enticing feature...

When is Leopard due, again?

Well, it's available now but it's my hunch that this might be included with Leopard as a default feature!

Leopard is due at the end of the second quarter of '07 according to wikipedia.

It's virtual, you can swap to each OS in a split second, and now they've introduced it so that you can run apps from say Windows directly in OS X.

Cool!

I've dabbled with the CrossOver trial, but wasn't particularly impressed. I can't wait for Leopard.

Paint Shop Pro and Metapad for me. Oh, and Beyond Compare.
Also, being able to test websites in IE would be handy.
If it could also handle games, I don't think I'd ever need to use Windows again.

Isn't there a Cedega port for OSX?

I'd never heard of BeyondCompare before, but it looks good, at the moment I just use the utilities provided to me by my SVN software and Visual Studio!

---

I tried the Parallels software on Windows (I see the Mac version is twice as expensive, and so perhaps twice as good ) and it wasn't as wonderful as YouTube makes it out to be . I tried running Ubuntu alongside Windows (with Windows as the primary OS) and it was painfully slow to start up Ubuntu in the virtual machine. Normal use was fine but I wouldn't fancy trying to run an app like Photoshop or indeed games in a VM like that.

Of course, all the standard Macs these days outperform my laptop, but that said it's not particularly slow either.

Not heard of that Cedega thing before, but it sounds interesting. Will have to look into it further at some point.

BeyondCompare is my instant and only answer if anyone wants a diff tool (for Windows anyhow). I've tried stuff like WinMerge and the built-in tools for Eclipse & TortoiseSVN, but they just aren't as good.

Just to add my 1p worth, I am waiting for my macbook pro but need a few more pennies still.. and then theres the iPhone.. sigh..

As for parrallels I think that will be the killer app, though MS Vista I have heard under new licencing you will need a pro copy to run as VM version and there are again numerous installing number of times issues.. Hooray for Apple Computers.. oops Apple Inc

Tom

Personally I'm waiting for a new MBP "thin" 12" model, it's only a rumour at the moment but I think a lot of people are crying out for a pro in a small form factor.

You are correct about Vista, as usual with Mircosoft they like to cripple things and make the lives of the end users tough and very expensive.
