| |
I've heard good things about you from several other customers of yours, and am thinking of signing up to the ADSLguide offer.
I have a couple of quick questions ....
Whats the difference between an addon and a parked domain?
I have 5 or maybe 6 domains i would put onto nethosted if it go with you .... 4 of which belong to the same plan in my head (it'll probably never materialise and you'll make £50 quid from me for not a lot ... ), and one belongs to the other.
Can i do this with the ADSLguide one?
Also ... the domains are with 1and1 at the moment, together with several others i have. For a bit, i'd quite like to not change the tags, and just change the a records - will this work with you? Its not a huge issue, just a nice to have.
Other things i'd like to see include ruby on rails and php 5, but no one seems to do any of them!
Final question what mysql version(s) do you use?

Hi,
Thanks for your interest in NetHosted.
Addon domains let you host a totally seperate site via the domain you "add" on. A parked domain can only mirror your main/root site.
You can host 5 different domains on that plan, so if each site was different you would have to purchase another addon (£15/year) to cover your 6th domain.
You can simply update the nameservers on your domains, no need to change any IPStags if you don't want.
We don't support Ruby or PHP5. The server you'd be put on runs MySQL 4.1
Hope that helps,

Can a parked mirror an addon as well as the main?
And am i right in thinking that if i wanted i could use mod_rewrite to turn a parked domain into a real one by invisibly rewriting all requests to a different folder depending on domain?
(although maybe you'd not like this idea!!) |

It can't mirror without us specifically hacking the httpd.conf!
Naturally we wouldn't approve of that...

I thought of one more thing, last one i think!
Do you have any of the PEAR extensions installed? specifically i'd like HTML_Quickform (and any dependancies! - there is one, but i forget the name). I have code that already uses this one, so i'd quite like not to have to change .....
Ta for all your quick replies! |

I haven't come across this one before - It looks pretty neat. Have you installed it across the known universe? (Neptune in particular.)

i think its rather good myself.
takes a bit of time to get familiar with, but well worth the investment of time if you do much web dev in PHP.
my favorite is probably the automatic validation, including client side using javascript (if you want it). |

Hi Ben,
I've just pulled an article on it by Keith Edmunds from ONLamp. That'll be my bedtime reading tonight. (I know - how sad is that?) Thanks for the heads up. (And welcome to Nethosted.)
