Did anyone watch this fantastic programme  on Tuesday?

It's like X-Factor but with entrepreneurs hoping to win some investment.

Very entertaining!

It's a great program and worth the watch. Some of the people wanting money just haven't got a clue about business. The dragons are brave though, giving their money away like that but if you have millions, what's a few hundred thousand between friends!

Looks like I'll have to catch the next episode then!

Another good program of a similar idea was "The Apprentice" with Donald Trump. I think either Alan Sugar or Richard Branson might be doing something similar over here which will be worth watching. These kind of programs (what was that one about the failing family firms that was on recently That was good) are great for looking at the mistakes other people are making in their busineses, until you realise, D'oh I'm doing that!

I didn't watch the Apprentice as I thought it would be too harsh - advice is one thing berating and belittling is different...

Better yet, apply to be on it! Today, a server. Tomorrow, a datacentre!

A friend applied to be on this show (Dragons Den).

They never even got back to him. Shame really as the business is going great so far. You can never tell what they're looking for I guess. Sometimes I think they want muppets on their show as it's good TV.

Like the service here so far by the way.

Will

Yeah - same with things like Big Brother

Glad you're happy with the service

It was the "apprentices" themselves that were harsh on each other, not Donald Trump. He seemed to be tough but honest with them. If you are hiring one of the contestants to run a business of yours, you don't want to upset them too much.

There is a fine line between being firm and being cruel. I suppose if you put a group of people together competing for a big prize, they will provide the conflict & entertainment without any external influences. They did mostly seem to get on with each other though. Can't say that about Big Brother (not watching it, don't know who is in it but suspect I wouldn't have a clue who any of them are anyway!)

I think it comes down to the type of position they are applying for also. Cruel/ nasty characteristics can be absolutely what is required by some organisations!!

Did anyone watch tonight? I don't get how some of the participants can be so rude to the potential investors, especially when the investors are actually considering making an investment. There seems to be a built in reaction to any criticism, the participants tend to then interrupt the investor with rebuttals without hearing everything the investor has to say.

Learn some respect people! And a few listening skills would help a great deal.

Maybe people seem to be generally too close to their projects, too passionate about them, so they just can't grasp it when others disagree over their potential.

A lot of the participants also seem to be the kind of people who you really don't want actually running a business. They may have had a good idea, but they don't necessarily have the right skill set to get the company going. The investors seem quite happy to invest when people admit they need guidance or experienced management, and often (rightly) sceptical when people want to run the business without showing any ability or experience.

End of rant! It's worse that Big Brother. :)

I really need to make sure I watch the next one so I can see what you're ranting about
