Hi Andrew,

Were having problems sending email this morning. We have tried sending them on different machines but still the same problem. Its coming back with this error message.

An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'Test', Account: 'mail.solutions-display.co.uk', Server: 'mail.solutions-display.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0B

My website is www.solutions-display.co.uk

We are having no problems in receiving messages.

Hope you can figure it out pretty quick

Regards

Adam

What happens when you try the following in a command prompt?

telnet mail.solutions-display.co.uk 25

You should get the following:
220-uranus.solardns.com ESMTP Exim 4.63 #1 Mon, 18 Jun 2007 09:40:15 +0100
220-We do not authorize the use of this system to transport unsolicited,
220 and/or bulk e-mail.

If not, then your ISP might be blocking port 25 to anything other than their mail server.

Adam,

I have let you know the problem in your ticket. You have not authenticated with the server via POP before trying to send this mail.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I have received your email but cant reply back to it so I am posting on here

Im not sure how to go about doing this. I use outlook express.

We have not had any problems ever before with this so why is it doing it now?

Thanks for your quick reply

Adam

Hi Andrew,

As I sent the message I then went into my account and found the "My server requires authentication" button and enabled it and the emails started sending.

I find it a bit odd that we have been hosted with you for over a year or two and we have never had this problem and never needed to authenticate the server so why have it started doing it now?

Has the server changed?

Thank you for the help.

Adam

Adam,

This option has always been available to you. Typically however people authenticate using POP as I described. I will look into whether any cPanel security updates have disabled this option but I would've expected many more people to be having problems sending if this was the case.

I'm glad everything is up and running for you again.

Thanks,

Andrew

Thanks Andrew,

Just need to go round all the computers in the office now and enable it! Stop everyone from moaning!

I've been having the same problem with my own accounts (at least the 3 I've attempted to use). Had to send via Googlemail in the end, Like Adam, I've never had to authenticate in the few years I've had the domains - so there must have been a recent change? Cheers, Mike.

I have a hunch that syslogd may have failed causing no hosts to be added to the relayhosts list. I can see that it is running now, are people still having these problems?

Andrew

All appears OK now, emails being sent without authentication enabled from homepc - however would it be good practice to have this setting enabled in any case? Cheers for the info Andrew... Mike.

Mike,

Thanks. It can do no harm to have it enabled; as you can see in this particular situation it would have prevented you from experiencing any problems

Andrew
