In order to increase traffic, it's usually a good idea to echange links with people. They put up a link to you and you put up a link to them, so it's a win/win situation.

So I thought it might be a good idea to have a nethosted link exchange of some sorts. I'll gladly put up a 88x31 picture, text link, or a 468x100 banner to anyone who puts up a link (one of the three kinds mentioned above) to me.

Here's an example of the lamahange.net 88x31 picture:

I just hope more people see this post..

Another idea, perhaps to put on the frontpage.

A member-list of some sorts with links and stuff to customers' websites, so you can show off all the cool websites that are hosted at nethosted and tell everyone how great our websites are.

The frontpage is pretty minimalist not sure where we'd fit something like this in on the front. Also privacy concerns, we'd have to get a list of people who'd be happy to have their sites on the front page. I guess we'd lean towards people who have written a testimonial too (so we can combine all three: site, description and testimonial).

Yeah that would be cool. You could do it sort of like a forum post, have a little picture on the left, with the website's name and text on the right. And a link too, of course.

Cool - I'll be in it - hehe.

I've already got a "Friends" section on my site. (locally only - haven't uploaded changes yet - syncing is such a pain in the rear)

So far I have nethosted, geekhaven and lamahange.

BTW Robin, your affiliate/friend image is 90 x 31 .

here's 2 from me.

"nt" at the end of the filename means "Not Transparent" and the "t" is, well, "Transparent" (for palish [ white - grey ] backgrounds.

thanx.

hmmmm - damn, attachments aren't working. Oh well, I'll upload and link.

Transparent - - - - Not Transparent -

Oops - forgot the address. - http://www.oztroll.com/  -or- http://oztroll.com/

How about having a Nethosted webring? A lot of the forums that I frequent have a webring that members who have sites can join, and clicking on the link takes you to a random members site.

Just my 2p worth

Seems like a very good idea to me.

I don't know much PHP, but I'm sure the following idea is doable:

A script that displays a random 88x31 picture as a link to the corresponding site, displayed on several websites. I know how to display random images, but not with a corresponding link. Seems like a good idea to me anyway.

Oh and here's my 88x31 picture that's actually 88x31:

Well, here's an update. I have a small script that will change an image every so often, along with a link, so that people can click the image. You could call it an ever-changing image. I will make an email form on my website so you can submit your own picture to me, all you have to do is email. Then, when I upload the picture and everything, all it will be displayed on whoever has pasted the code for the 'ever-chainging image.'

Sound like a good idea?? I'll upload the email form and script and everything else tomorrow afternoon. Hope you'll like it and/or even use it.

Right, well in the left menu of my website you can see the link, it will have a different picture every 60/5 seconds, so that's every 12 seconds. The more images I add, the less seconds it'll be. You have to refresh to see it though. I think it works. If anyone wants to be in it: just go to http://lamahange.net/en/links.php  and send me an email. I'll make a special php form for it later.. perhaps.

we could do webring.nethosted.co.uk and jst not link it on the front page. sites in the ring would be enough to do that

Member sites could promote and drive traffic themselves

If it seems like a lot of fuss to do a script and everything for this possible webring, why not use something like Ringsurf? Then just a simple 'JOIN OR DIE!' link somewhere on here linking to the Ringsurf join page for full instructions on how to add the code to your site. *shruggles*

I just don't think it's a smart idea. We couldn't put any sites in the ring without members agreeing to it, I don't want to mass mail all clients about a webring either(!) leaving the community the only way for a client to say they're happy to be included in the ring. So I can only see the ring having around 5 sites or something which would lead to a negative impression of NetHosted (what do they only host 5 sites or something?). Maybe as more people join and the community becomes more active

Andrew
