I once used a version of Net Objects Fusion for my homesite - version 2 it was ... (free with a magazine) ... it was flexible

No meta tags - that is important if you want people to find your site

If its your first website, may I ask why it was built by a colleague?

Personally, I don't think the navigation buttons themselves are very clear ...

How does it look on a screen resolution of 600x800?

For a first effort, I think you did good!

The content looks to be ok, although a user needs to contact you to get anything useful on courses. Perhaps you need to add some "value" to the surfing experience. Perhaps advertise a few of the popular courses with a few more details?

There are a few things that make it obvious that you used a WYSIWYG editor to build the site. The source is a bit clumsy (all these programs produce grotty html) and it doesn't validate as XHTML . Ideally, you should have the font and style as a seperate style sheet (CSS) as this will make colour changes on the site an awful lot easier to do, particularly as the site grows.

Finally, as a Learndirect centre and other educational courses, I think accessibility is important. People with disabilities are probably ideally suited to this type of course, so take a look at this accessibility report .

Screen resolution of 800 x 600 gives no major problems, your photo of the building could do with being made a little smaller and the film strip image gallery overlaps with a horizontal scroll bar but not a big problem. Not keen on the brown colour, too dull. Colour choice is incredibly important. Our choice of red for www.penninevets.co.uk  was based on our building already being known as The Red Shop, it is a very obvious colour for our facade, stands out on our yellow pages advert, is easy to reproduce in a range of formats and has loads of medical connotations. If your centre is a learndirect, perhaps copying their shades of blue would work?

Overall, for a first site it is very nice. Content is king and the content that you have is good, I just feel you could add a little something extra.Sell your centre to me. Other than that, I would rewrite the site by hand, using your existing pages as a template, learn XHTML & CSS, have some fun and get the site that you want, not the one that NetObjects gives you. It might take some time, but you are a learning centre and your next web site will be something special. I'm on version 3.0 and as web technology improves, my skills get better, so will my site. A good web designer always has their sites under construction.

Good luck.

Cause we both work for the same company and he built the site and I hosted it.

<SCRIPT SRC="file:///C:/NetObjects Fusion MX/NetObjects System/rollover.js"

suggests he missed a bit

sticking to notepad and netscape composer for a while

directory listing is freely allowed and seems i can browse the whole site and see anything i want to
http://www.stepbystepbrownhills.co.uk/assets/images/db_images/  etc...

dropping a blank index.html solves this - put one in each dir and use index.htm and whatever.htm for subjects in the
http://www.stepbystepbrownhills.co.uk/html/  directory
