Hello all,

Is it possible to use SSH or similar to upload a zip or rar file, then unpack it on the server?
The reason I am asking is because if I try to ftp a directory of phpBB or wordpress (for example), it takes ages to upload all the tiny files & many directories.
I would prefer to upload a single .rar file & unpack it (in theory should be very quick)

any suggestions.

Regards

Carlos

hello Mark,

Is their any alternative to SSH that can execute a unrar or unzip tar or gzip or etc...?
rather than asking you guys to unpack stuff a couple of times a day?

possibly a execute or custom command via SmartFTP?

Regards

Carlos

No I beleive Andrew has it configured such that only NetHosted staff have server shell access to prevent any malicious users taking advantage of the command line.

If you instruct me as to what you need I will be happy to do whatever you require.

You could make a PHP script do the work for you - then you'd trigger it by visiting a page on your site. You could even use the same page to upload the ZIP file in the first place!

PostPosted: Wed Jan 26, 2005 2:01 pm    Post subject: a bit more thought

Thinking about it a little more, there must be a way as:
If you have ever installed anything through your cPanel via Fantastico, it installs stuff in a matter of seconds, I wonder if it just copies all the directories or unpacks from an archive on the server to do an installation?

Looking at phpinfo() for the server says that:
Zip support enabled

I wonder if this might help?

Any suggestions?

Regards

Can you not upload the zip using FTP
then go into Cpanel and use the file manager
click on the file, then select extract file contents
