AOL does seem to have its problems with FTP, SMTP and anything other than web browsing, probably because it actively blocks ports and has some quite strict spam filters. I suppose with that many customers, it is easier ( & cheaper) to be proactive than reactive. Glad its working for you now.

Just found this, im having problems too. can't upload a 10K html file over FTP!

Im on BT here, and i've tried it with securefx (in pure ftp mode) and the windows explorer ftp client.

hmm just tried a different server and got the same thing.

only thing i can think of at this minute is that I installed the latest windows patches yesterday... sounds fishy.. let me just disable zonealarm and try again....

nope that didnt make any difference. Im beginning to think its the MS updates....

I've just tried an FTP with AceFTP, Win XP but without the latest patches and it worked just fine. I'm also using a wired router and Eclipse (who don't block any ports).

I have just downloaded a largish chunk of my site by ftp as a backup and after about 4 mins of continuous files, it did time out. However, I am using AceFTP3  which is a free download and this client reconnected within 5 seconds and continued where it had been stopped. If the warning noise hadn't alerted me, I would never have known.
