| Say, a single banner at the top or bottom; would this be enough to cover a Basic Plan yearly hosting fee? What would be needed if this is not enough? I don't know how web advertising works, I understand that Google Ads are on a per-click cost basis for the advertiser but that's all I know. |

Hi,
This varies wildly based on the number of visitors your site would be getting, as well as the amount that actually click on the ad's. The income per ad would also differ on a site with AdWords depending on what the subject of the site was, because these ad's are contextual so people offer a lot more for more profitable subjects.
I think you get roughly half the advertising revenue paid to Google, with a popular site you'd definitely be able to cover costs, there are definitely people out there that make a living on AdWords alone, though not too many!
Best of luck!

| Thanks. It's a minor-interest art website, I suppose of interest to art students and professionals, so art supply shops and galleries may see their adverts on this site. Certainly plenty of money in those, even if the art itself doesn't make much money! |

I wouldn't go for banner ads, nor rely on Google Ads.
Best route to take would be to approach local art shops and galleries and agree a fixed fee each month.
For example, find three places willing to pay £1 per month for a single advert and you've covered the Basic Plan.
And of course if you want to make money then maybe go with £10 instead.
(Depends how valuable the advert will be to the place, and how much potential traffic you'll have) _________________ Peter Boughton |
