GRRRRRRRRRRR! see? THATS how angry I am....

I have a backup of my SQL database from my soon-to-be old host. It's mainly full of postnuke related things, as that was the cms I decided on.

I know this may be a really obvious question to the majority of people, but in the world of SQL I'm a genuine newbie, and so please don't point and laugh TOO much.

In really easy steps, how do I go about uploading a backup of an SQL database that I created using phpMYadmin, and allowing it to be accessed by my site.

Do you need to know anything specific off me in order to give advice?

Hi,

Don't worry, everyone has to start as a beginner! Nothing wrong with that.

You can go to cPanel and then Backups and use the Restore MySQL Database box to upload your backup.

If you have any problems or further questions, let us know!

Josh

When I upload a copy of my database, the screen says "Restoring Database" for ages, and when I look at it in phpmyadmin, it says there are no tables.

This happens whether I use an uncompressed version, or a .gz

I'm really not sure what to do.....

Hi,

How large is the database? It will have to upload the entire thing, so if it is very large, this can take a long time. If you would like me to try to restore it, you can upload it to your site and give me the address.

Josh

It's 4.7 meg.

If you could upload it for me, just to make sure I'm doing it correctly, I've put it at www.badlyspelled.com/humbug.sql.gz

Hi,

I uploaded it and it seems to be ok, is it in phpMyAdmin?

It's in there, but it's still saying "No tables found in database."

and there's a (-) by the side of the name, whereas the other 2 have numbers.

Hi,

Ok, try selecting the database on the left bar in phpMyAdmin, click SQL, chose the database file from your hard drive (under location of the textfile), and click go.

It reached 4.8 meg (the size of the entire file), and my browser window seems to have frozen, or be waiting for confirmation.

Hi,

I can't figure out why it's not working. You'll have to wait for until someone else can look at it. Sorry for the inconvenience!

I've forced the copying of the database even though it has two permission denied errors relating to a totally different database. You should see the information in the database via phpMyAdmin now.

Let me know if this is sufficient.
