I've just had a problem with cyberpixels, where they canceled my account due to googlebot spidering my web site, and the web sites chat forum.

Each forum page obviously makes one mysql connection to get the information, so this caused about 2,000 mysql connections over the period it took google to spider my site.

It was too much for cyberpixels, so they cancelled my account.

Before i sign up for one of your packages, can I have confirmation that my account will not be canceled when bots spider my web site?

A lot of my traffic depends on search engine traffic, so i do not wish to block spiders from my site.

Also, is it possible to purchase extra add-on domains seperatly after?

ALSO, Everything you offer is scarily similar to cyberpixels, just UK based. The same support, the same helpdesk, the same support forum, the same cpanel (i presume you're using cpanel), almost the same packages... Are you in any way associated with cyberpixels?

Ta,
Mikee

Hi,

Thanks for your interest! Firstly I can say I've never heard of CyberPixels and we certainly have no association with them that I am aware of what so ever.

Can we clarify the connections issue - 2000 simultaneous connections would be way over the mark and would require a dedicated solution. Do you have any way of telling us how many connections there were at any one time? Or perhaps a bit more about the site so we can gauge the situation. We don't want to offer to host you if your site brings our server down

Sure we can work something out addons wise, how many were you after?

Andrew

www.cyberpixels.com

Almost the same pre-set packages. Same cpanel backend, same helpdesk software, and i think it's the same forum software too. Scarily co-incidence.

I'm not too sure how many connections were made at one time, but it's basically just a normal database driven forum with obviously 1 database connection on each page. I'm not totally sure how long google takes to spider a web site, maybe it's spread it.

It'd be no different from google spidering this forum (if the forum was a bit more popular). http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=site%3Awww%2Enethosted%2Eco%2Euk

Is there a minium contract period? If i signed up and it was too much for your servers, could i try to find a solution, and if not, just take the web site down (and back it up, which cyberpixels didnt give me an opportunity to do), then look for an alternative host?

As for the addons, they're not in need just yet, but i might be looking to point a few other domains i have in this direction some time.

I'm trying to keep my costs down on the web site. It's not a paid-for site.. just a forum and young persons site for kids living in Leeds. Trying to keep my costs down to a minimum, becuase I make nothing out of it!

Ta

I've done extensive work in search engine optimisation over the past few months (i work as a web developer in Leeds).
If you're ever interested in getting listed higher, let me know.

(was that a cheeky message?)

Hi,

We will be able to accommodate your needs, after all it's a forum I was under the impression each page of your site had some form of database connection which would've killed our server.

We offer monthly and annual contracts - the choice is yours. Tell you what, since you've already had one bad hosting experience I'm happy to offer you a money back guarantee. Sign up and I'll give you your money back in full if you aren't happy with our service in any way - no quibble. I'm confident you will be happy though

Sound fair?

Andrew

Ooh, one last question.

Sorry about all the questions. This one is probably the most important.

Do your apache setups have mod_rewrite installed on the servers? Or do you have a phpinfo(); page i could look at to see the server configuration?

Thanks,
Mike

Nothing cheeky about that, naturally we'd love to be listed as high as possible! Had a job getting Google to even spider phpBB anyway

Your help would be appreciated

Andrew

Would you like us to set you up that page for you anyway? We do support mod_rewrite

Ok, If I choose to go with yourselves (which i'm currently thinking i will), i'll have a little play and send you what I've done.
I can also optimise phpBB a lot better for search engines, too. It'd help your site a lot to get this forum listed high, mainly due to the amount of hosting related content contatined within the pages.

One thing to note, the money back guarantee wont be open to you for life clearly, lets say 14 days - gives you plenty of time to see if the hosting is up to scratch and for us to make sure your site wont kill our server (I'm sure it wont...!)

Andrew
