| |
Hi,
This morning I'm getting constant 0x800ccc0e errors when trying to download emails from Saturn via POP3 to my Outlook2000 program.
Sent an email from Outlook to my email addy to test and going in via cPanel/Horde its not there in the Inbox.
Cheers

Hi,
I can see no problems with the server, I have restarted the mail server just to be sure. Have you recently installed some new antivirus/firewall software this can sometimes cause errors?

Hi Andrew,
Nope, no changes this end. I'm able to receive/send email from my other domains (hosted elsewhere) just fine. My NetHosted domain though always gives the 0x800ccc0e error - it was fine earlier this morning - noticed it start to throw up errors about 10am.
Have not changed anything in Outlook prefs/accounts etc.
I sent an email to it at 12:24pm and just now looking in Horde there's nothing there in the Inbox.
Just successfully sent from the domain to another addy so she's sending OK.
Weird huh?
p.s. the email I sent to the domain but that isn't showing up has not bounced back. Normally malformed addresses/undeliverables etc come back within 10 mins or so form the account I sent from.
p.p.s Microsofts advice is that a port is blocked yet I'm listening on 110 and sending (which is fine) on 25:

That is strange, as I can see mail being relayed without issue by the server.
I will look into this for you and get back to you as soon as possible.
Thanks,

I've taken a thorough look. Three things to note:
1) According to our server logs you last checked your email at: Aug 8 11:10:35 - could this perhaps suggest that your requests were temporarily being routed to your old nameservers (hence the error and lack of email?).
2) I also see an authentication error for your webmaster@ account and I see a message to sales@ was rejected due to the address not existing. Does this explain what is happening?
3) Can you send/receive if you use the server IP (85.13.238.2) instead of your domain name?

Hi Andrew,
Changing from mail.mydomain.com to the IP addy fixed it immediately.
Thanks!
What does this mean? I thought the domain had fully resolved to your nameservers.
Does this mean I can't use webmail either (as no mail was visible in the Inbox when logged in).
Cheers
JB
p.s. I've never had other nameservers, I registered the domain brand new and pointed straight at you...! |

Hehe, I see that now! Well I've looked over our nameserver entries and they're correct for you. The nameservers are running without issue and I can ping mail.yourdomain.com and it returns the expected IP address. What happens if you try and ping that?
You can use webmail, if you are able to login via webmail then you should be having no problems.

Yep I'm pinging mail.mydomain.com fine 12ms,15ms,13ms
I only ask about webmail because when unable to download via POP3 earlier I thought "OK then it must be stuck on the server" so:
1. Logged into cPanel
2. Into Horde
3. Looked at the inbox (where two mails should be waiting) and like Old Mother Hubbard - 'twas bare
If the 0x800ccc0e prob is something to do with name v ip addy in my Outlook (not sure why if name servers are fine) then this shouldn't affect mails actually getting TO the server right? Only my ability to get them off via POP3?
I'm relatively comfy with this stuff, but firmly in the bracket of "knows just enough to be dangerous"
JB
p.s. just changed the IP addy back to mail.mydomain.com in Outlook Account settings (just to see if fault still there) and all working fine again - no errors...... |

I just removed a couple of messages off the mail queue so that could explain the disappearing mail. Can you now see test messages you send in Horde?
Well if Outlook had an issue with mail.yourdomain.com for retrieving mail it may well have had the same error for sending mail too!
Don't worry, this is obscure. As you say it's working fine for you retrieving via your domain now and you can ping. Hopefully this was just a temporary glitch in yours/the isps/our systems.

This is fun......beats working...
Right then.......
Outlook now working fine.
Horde OR Squirrel Mail not so.
I just did this:
Sent a message to webmaster@mydomain.com from another of my addresses on a different host.
Waited 5 mins
Checked into cPanel then Horde. Inbox Blank.
Checked into Squirrel Mail. Inbox blank
Pressed send-rec in Outlook and down it came.
So it looks like mail sent to my webmaster@ addy is there but I just cant see it. Haven't set up anything on Horde etc with regard to folders etc. As is.
Any ideas?

Are you actually logging in to Horde with this login: webmaster+yourdomain.com ? If you are simply logging in by clicking the Webmail link in cPanel that will take you to your default address.

From cPanel (using the cPanel login + pw) I'm clicking the Webmail icon. Then the Horde icon.
That takes me to the Horde page which says "login" (no fields to put anything else).
Clicking the login button gets me into Horde to the Inbox.
If I log out of Horde I get a "log in again?" screen
This is prefilled with my cPanel name and pw
JB
p.s. Just sent one up to the webmaster@ addy (which is the only one set up at the mo and therefore the default). 16:04 |

Go to yourdomain.com/webmail and specifically login with the username: webmail+yourdomain.com and the password you setup for that particular account (not your main cPanel password).
Do you see your mail?

Hoorah!!!
That did it - I can see the one I sent up a few mins ago.
Thanks Andrew, for all your help.
So, what I've learned is:
For webmail do it via domain.com/webmail using login and pw as used in Outlook and NOT via cPanel Webmail link.
If I get 0x800ccc0e again, change to IP address and back again may "unclog" it.....
Thanks for all your fantastic help Andrew.
Cheers

Well basically if you look in the Mail tool of cPanel you'll notice a default address. That default address is set to :fail: to prevent spammers from clogging up our server with mail such as jsdbksdb@yourdomain.com as these get automatically rejected. Only mail that is sent to a mailbox you've created will get through. The Webmail button automatically logs in to this default address which as I've just explained is set to :fail: so you'll never see mail in there!
Glad to have helped.
