Hello NH Staff!

With the recent release of the first minor revision of PHP5, I was wondering if there are any plans to upgrade? I did a quick search and found only couple  of threads discussing the installation of PHP5, but these are both at least 9 months old.

I appreciate that upgrading to PHP5 is likely to break some currently installed scripts, so a complete shift to using PHP5 would clearly not be a viable solution. However, as far as I'm aware it's possible to run PHP4 alongside PHP5, parsing scripts with the extension .php with the old engine and those ending with another, such as .php5 with the new engine. Would this be at all a feasible solution?

Many of the new features in PHP5 would be highly beneficial to me, and I assume also others.

Thanks

Sam,

We are awaiting the upgrade along with many others, however until cPanel declare it stable it wont get upgraded.

I will look into the dual running...

Sam,

I can't find any helpful information about running them in parallel.

Thanks for having a look into it for me. It's perfectly possible to do it, but what I hadn't appreciated when I posted was that it's not actually as simple as I (stupidly) assumed. (for the record, I'm referring to this ).

Anyway, I've been having a rummage around on the cPanel forum and can't find any, even vague information as to if, when and what will make cPanel consider PHP5 to be suitable for use on a production server. Oh well, I guess it's just a case of waiting.

Thanks again for the time you've taken out to have a look into this

No problem! cPanel can be quite hard to get answers from sometimes
