Hi everyone

Please be gentle everyone, this is my first site and is for my parents who have just opened a holiday cottage in Staffordshire. For the curious, it was created using NetObjects Fusion 9. Comments very welcome, I'm always willing to learn / improve.

www.rockhousefarm.org

Thanks all,

-Richard

I think my only criticism would be the grey menu bar, I think the grey is a bit dull/dark and the font used a little "thin" apart from I like the site

Thanks for the quick response Andrew (do you ever rest? I had emails off you late last night and now you're back on the boards!). I'll look into alternative colours and run them past the bosses

Glad you like the site. I have plans to expand it with an availability page when I get the hang of php/mysql..

Fixed the minor error with the directions page now (forgot to update the google api key to reflect the live domain).

looks good. I agree with Andrew about the grey and the font. The menu gets lost, if that makes sense, and my eye has to look for it. Possibly making the menu the dark blue bar colour with white text? Not sure if there any theories about how many colours one should use for impact?

On About Us, I'd lose the ':' after the link eg. Alton Towers:

On Directions, the second line seems to have a different size font for the numbers? The line spacing between lines 1 and 2 looks bigger than the rest.

Have you thought of matching one of the page colours to the sky in the header picture? Or dropping the page background colour down from white to something less, maybe match a cloud colour?

The page name in the header (in black at the moment). I'd do something with that. Maybe bigger, different colour or transparency to give a style(?)

Lovely looking place though and a fantastic first site

Thanks for the constuctive comments Z Not sure what I can do with the menu atm, but I've changed the font to arial and the colour to a dark blue that I think makes it stand out more. Changing the button colours / style is a bigger job and will have to wait a while. I've given the pages a consistent colour scheme now, and they have a light blue background rather than white. Not having much luck at finding a match for the cloud colour, but I'll keep trying..
You're right that the form portion of the directions page looked a bit naff, I've tightened the table up a bit which seems to help. And I've got rid of those pesky colons too..
I tried removing the page name (top right) but it looked like something was missing, so instead I've tweaked the font colour so that it blends with the background a bit more.

I'm not sure about the colour changes I've made (I'm totally unartistic) so have applied them to www.rockhousefarm.org/test  for now).

On a purely self-promotional note, because the cottage has only just opened and they're still getting marketing off the ground there's plenty of late bookings available. Even though it's been rated at 4*, prices are discounted to be in line with local 3* accomodation whilst they get going.
