What FTP clients do people here use?
I currently use SmartFTP, but it really bugs me, and I want to find something better and less irritating.
In the past I've used WS_FTP but don't like that. Likewise FireFTP. _________________ Peter Boughton |

Lots of little things:
- I have to keep upgrading to the latest version.
- You can't read the log window - if you try scrolling up it keeps flicking to the bottom.
- It auto-connects to the previous connection on startup.
- The folder tree thing is badly done.
and so on.
Ideally I'd just like something simpler and that Just Works. _________________ Peter Boughton |

Hmm, not sure then. You've tried the big three! Sorry I can be of no help.

| I used to use Cuteftp but moved to Smartftp a long time ago. I can't remember why. Smartftp has some good features but also some default settings which caused me some grief until I worked out what was going wrong. Happy with it now. |

I use FileZilla on Windows at the moment and it works well for me:

I use the one built into Explorer for general transfer of files.
If I'm editing something via FTP I'll simply use the built-in FTP in Zend Studio.
I used to use SmartFTP but in the end there didn't seem much point in having a separate FTP programme. Maybe if I was uploading large files often.

| I've tried SmartFTP several times but never been able to keep using it... something about its way of using windows that I don't like. I've been using FlashFXP for a long time now. It costs $25 but I think it's worth it. It has a nice looking simple & intuitive interface and it definitely has that feeling of "Just Works" reliability about it. |

Hmmm, not sure about the price, but I'm giving it a try.
Doesn't have the scrolling/flickering log problem, which is good.
It's got progress on the statusbar which is good (don't think SmartFTP had that?)
No major complaints so far... I'll try it again later when I've actually got something to properly do with it. _________________ Peter Boughton |

I use Filezilla on Windows, and gFTP on Linux.
I don't use Windows very often, but from memory Filezilla seemed OK.
I use gFTP most of the time, and am very happy with it. _________________ Kev Maggs

Hi,
I use CuteFTP 5.0.4 XP at the moment, but may change in the future. _________________ Regards,

| It looks like SmartFTP is no longer a free option. Nothing on their website at the moment but reinstalls are coming up with a message saying that you have to pay for it from now on. |

I saw a discussion on possible alternatives on Reddit
Thanks,
