I am hoping someone can throw some light on the following problem I am having....
I have been using an FTP client (WinSCP Version 3.8.2 http://winscp.net/)  for a while now - and have found it to be really quite useful - particularly a synchronise function - which I found very good....- until last week...
Suddenly it stopped working - it attempts to connect - then fails with a timeout error - I cannot remember doing anything that might have affected it - and stopped it working - anyway - I downloaded a later version of the program (Ver 4.03) - which will connnect - but will not sustain the connection while transferring data...so neither program is working correctly at the moment...
The main difference that I can see between the versions - is that the earlier version uses SFTP - the later version uses FTP...
I have tried finding answers at the winscp forum - with no joy as yet - so then I thought there might be someone here with some ideas to add...?
Question here is - could I have inadvertantly "adjusted" something in CPanel - that would cause any of this ? - or are there any other settings I need to check / change ? in relation to FTP ?
I await the collective wisdom of the folks here ?
Have also tried a few other FTP clients (not recently though) but have been trying Filezilla today...

Hi,

I've looked through the logs and I can see you connecting multiple times but never transferring data. There is no cPanel setting that would cause this behavior, this sounds much more like a local PC/router issue to me. Hope that helps!

Yes - I have found multiple connections in the FTP Session Control - in fact there are 3 there now - not sure if that was happening when the programs were working correctly - I had no reason to look ?

I was hoping you wouldn't say that
Trouble is - I can't think of anything I have changed to cause a sudden "loss of service"....all the kit is as it has been for ages....If it's working I don't mess with it...

Well the best way would be to get a friend to try and connect and upload a file. Make sure they're not with the same ISP as you!

Hmmm...friend ? been sat at this keyboard so long - I can barely remember any - might have to try that....
Would one be questioning the reliability of one's ISP - by any chance ?
(quite able / willing / happy to do that oneself )
