[03/09/07] Mail server change on Pluto, Neptune and Uranus

Hi,

Customers hosted on Pluto, Neptune and Uranus should be aware that there will be a change of mail storage method and POP/IMAP server taking place on Saturday 15th September. This process takes some time (as all existing mailboxes need to be converted) so customers may notice that mail is not being delivered during the conversion period. All mail will be queued and delivered upon completion.

Things to be aware of:

1) You may receive error messages when trying to check your mail during the conversion process, this is expected and will resolve itself once the process has completed.

2) If you use POP to collect your mail, and you have selected the option to "leave mail on the server after collection" in your mail client, you should be aware that all mail on the server will be seen as new by your mail client and will therefore download again. It's strongly recommended that you clear your inbox before the conversion date to prevent this.

3) IMAP users may need to re-subscribe to their mailboxes after the conversion process.

4) Neomail will no longer be available as it does not work with the new mailbox format. You should therefore migrate to SquirrelMail or Horde before the conversion takes place.

5) You should not have any mailboxes called cur, new or tmp as these are reserved mailbox names in the new system.

The benefits of the conversion include much improved mail speed, no more problems with inbox locking and simultaneous IMAP account access. This conversion is also a step towards a future upgrade to cPanel 11.

Update: it seems our billing software has decided everyone's first name is "Mark" when sending out the email notification regarding this. Apologies for this, the mail is still valid and should be taken into account.
