Hey all,

I've decided to post here in an effort to get more brains on the problem I've been experiencing since around the end of January with my Nethosted email hosting.

I'm on Mars, and had no problems up until around the 29th January, where I suddenly found that certain emails were no longer hitting my mailbox, and aren't even appearing in the 'Raw' log in the Spam and Antivirus section of cPanel.

Examples include all important emails from eBay (Outbid, Item Won, Invoice Sent, Message from eBay member, etc), account activation mails from several forums, such as HotUKDeals, and several Mailing lists I subscribe to, such as "Entanet NOC Updates", Money Saving Expert weekly tips, and BigPockets. These are just a few of the mails I've noticed that I'm not receiving, but there are a lot more.

Andrew has acknowledged the problem, and did make a few tweaks that caused one or two expected emails to arrive, but none since. I still receive no mails from eBay.

Andrew states that other users on the same server are having no problems receiving mail from the above sources, but I am at wits end as to what I can do about it. As the mails aren't even hitting the raw log, it can't be a configuration problem with my client. I've looked in the delaying log too, just in case, though I realize that everything listed in there will also be in the raw log anyway.

Does anyone have any ideas to sort this problem out, it's driving me up the wall, especially considering the hundreds of spam mails I get a day still manage to get through and fall in my spambox!

All help appreciated

Hi,

Just to clarify these emails are not even appearing on our network at all. I've suggested a reason why I think this might be happening and have corrected that issue as per the ticket you have open.

If this problem persists I really feel the best thing to do would be to at least try on a different, non ASSP based, server to see if that's where the issue lies.

Thanks,

Andrew

If that happens then what weapons will I have to evade all the spam that constantly hits my mailbox?

It just seems like a coincidence that mail from so many different sources all stop sending me mail at once.

Could it be a problem with my DNS or MX records? You set them up, could you check them for me?

Thanks.

Hi,

I sent you a rather detailed reply as to why I thought this might be DNS related at 13:29 today. I see from our logs that you did not receive this reply however because this was just after I had updated your MX records and our server had cached the incorrect entries.

You can login to our helpdesk to view the reply, I will send it again now also.

SpamAssassin with SpamBox and BoxTrapper.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi,

I was having similar problems (also on Mars) where quite a few of my emails weren't getting through from sources such as the daily email from BBC News. They wern't appearing in the logs either when I raised a ticket. I've since pointed the nameservers for the domain in question to a friends account on another host and get the emails without a problem. It uses the same assp system (it looks the same anyway) & I get the messages I was not getting before. I also used to get the mail when I was with nethosted before (on Saturn I think), but that was in the days before assp.

I would like to point my domain back to my own account on Nethosted, but don't want to loose the emails again.

Would whatever you did for the original poster maybe have solved the similar problem I was having?

Thanks,

Matt

Matt,

Yes we found a problem both with the MX record of the client and with our configuration of ASSP. Neither problem should affect clients now so it is fine to set your service back to ours.

Thanks,

Andrew
