I've been looking at frameworks, deciding which one I'd like to learn to use, and wondered if Ruby on Rails  is something you might look to install at some point.

Hi,

This is something we have looked into. However it seems there are still a few problems with the cPanel implementation of this (as this is our preferred method) of getting this up and running.

Depending on demand, yes. We'd have to educate ourselves on Ruby a little more before I'd feel comfortable deploying it server wide. But that shouldn't be a problem.

Okeydoke. I may be at a bit of a crossroads regarding developing CMS's/web apps, and am still choosing where I want to head language/framework-wise. Keep us updated about RoR Andrew.

Hi,

Thanks. The problem we have at the moment is the fact it seems SSH access is required to really be able to utilise cPanel's Ruby install. Once we work around this I'll no doubt be getting into contact with you to test things.

Hi,

There is still no way for people to manage Rails without SSH access which is not something we currently offer. Until cPanel come up with a better interface for this there's no way we can offer RoR.

Well it's either useless because it's so restricted or it's not secure. Neither really strikes us as suitable options.

Eventually cPanel will make RoR available in such a way that won't involve people needing ssh access.
