How does sender verification operate on Nethosted?

I am trying to send an email to an address on my pern.co.uk domain from postfix on my local machine.

The mail is bounced by 85.13.238.130:
Jun 6 12:42:42 cove postfix/qmgr[4278]: 2EF8583804: from=<xxxx@dmamain.org.uk>, size=561, nrcpt=1 (queue active)
Jun 6 12:42:44 cove postfix/smtp[9956]: 2EF8583804: to=<yyyy@pern.co.uk>, relay=pern.co.uk[85.13.238.130]:25, delay=2.6, delays=0.17/0.02/2.2/0.23, dsn=5.0.0, status=bounced (host pern.co.uk[85.13.238.130] said: 550-Verification failed for <xxxx@dmamain.org.uk> 550-No Such User Here 550 Sender verify failed (in reply to RCPT TO command))

Hi,

This is because catch-all is set to fail, if you change the behaviour in cPanel you will be able to send to addresses that are not created as mailboxes, you can do this in the "Default Address" settings.

Regards,

Darryl

It was being sent to a valid address - the xxxx was just to hide the real address

Hi,

I've done some digging, the problem here is the address the mail is being sent from. It doesn't exist, so when our server tries to verify it it fails and therefore the message gets bounced.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi,

You can see Andrew's reply, I've checked in your cPanel and there are no mail accounts configured on this domain, the verification is checking that the account exists before you can send from it. If you create this account in cPanel this should fix your issue.

Regards,

Darryl

Hi,

The SMTP server queries the server that hosts the domain as to whether the email address exists.

Regards,

Darryl

Does it query the server hosting the domain, or the server in the mx record?

Hi,

Sorry to clarify yes this is the server in the MX record that it queries.

Regards,

Darryl
