Paul,
Ensure your mail client is definitely checking POP mail before trying to send a mail. If it is not the easy solution to this is to turn on authentication in your mail client.
Thanks,

Paul,
This error is unrelated to the first. The server has now decided you've made too many attempts to send mail and has blocked your IP temporarily.

I'm occasionally seeing the "too many connections" error.
It's happened a couple of times today (several hours apart) while sending a single email to one recipient.
Wait a few minutes, and it goes ok. Doesn't seem to be related to other SMTP traffic (the previous send this time was some 25 minutes earlier)
It's a minor problem, but a bit annoying.
(this is on Saturn, by the way) _________________ Jim |

Jim,
This message should be rare as it is only triggered when there are many simultaneous connections coming into the SMTP server. It's designed to prevent high load on the servers.
The limits are always being reviewed however especially due to spam pushing up the number of connections being made to the mail server.
Thanks,

Andrew
That's what I assumed, but I though I'd ask in view of your previous reply, as I got the same error message -

Just in case case it was an account-related problem.
But if it's overall server loading due to spam etc, then that's ok.
Well... it's obviously not ok but you know what I mean.
Just wish there was a way to send a landmine back to the sods. _________________ Jim |

Jim,
I know it's really REALLY annoying. 10,437,143 messages blocked in the last 305 days and that's just the messages we can be absolutely positive are spam, who knows the real number that arrives.
As I say, if it gets out of hand with legitimate connections being blocked (it shouldn't) then the block cut off can be raised.

It's only occasional (for me, anyway). I only asked 'cos I got it twice today.
I think keeping the server smooth is much more important than a couple of minutes delay in sending an email. _________________ Jim |

Hi,
You may need to replace your local copy of the certificate as we have rebuilt exim today so a new certificate would have been generated.
Thanks,

Yes this message is expected as it is a self-signed certificate. You wouldn't have had to do this before as we haven't generated new certificates in a while.
Thanks,
