A few of suggestions for a sticky post for good information sites / tutorials.

www.htmldog.com  - Good tutorials and references

www.alistapart.com  - perhaps aimed at a higher level but good examples.

http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/  - CSS validator

http://validator.w3.org/  - (X)HTML Validator

I suppose you could also link to editors. I like Topstyle lite (free) and at your suggestion somewhere else, HTML Kit. I haven't used many of the plugins but the layout and colouring is good and the price is definately right.

I must recommend HTML-Kit myself also - very nice piece of software. If you use Unix I'd recommend vim

www.w3schools.com  ... It may be for beginners, but useful when you forget some obscure function..

www.texturizer.net  ah, so simple. jump to lines, ansi/unicode options, unix/mac/dos options.. syntax highlighting all that funky stuff, and it uses tabs.

I use http://www.codegrrl.com  scripts to manage my small sites and fanlistings. They're so easy to use for PHP n00bs like me.

http://www.htmlgoodies.com  is where I learned HTML

Oh god, don't give me more sites with forums. I can't keep up.

www.funky-chickens.com  was where I learnt basic HTML.

Vim's not really known for its newbie friendliness!

Yeah, I guess. I'd advise anyone to jump in at the deep end and use what the geeks use in this case - they know about these things!

Maybe it's unfamiliar, but certainly no harder to get used to than MS Word or something for the first time. At least with vim you're learning something which is quick, clean and versatile.

I'm certainly no hacker (or however they spell it!).

Got to disagree with you there - in Word you just start typing... vim you need to get your head around command and insert modes!

Maybe you're right.

I was using nano up until a week ago, and vim is so much nicer now I've been shown how! I'm sure there's loads I don't know, but when always using terminals (and often only working within a single terminal) the ":!" and ":e" shortcuts seemed a lifesaver!

I also use vim - it's great, very fast when you know how... it's just getting that know-how!
