Yesterday my nicolaford domain email accounts gave an error message when downloading using Outlook Express, other ISP accounts are downloading ok. It had been working fine for ages and the only change in set-up I can think of is I recently (but not yesterday) updated Avast to v5.0.594.

After rebooting my laptop yesterday I thought that had solved the problem as the domain email began downloading again, but this morning OE's back to giving error messages.

I think Andrew suggested that the mail setting of

solardns.com - POP3 - 995 (port) - SSL (encryption)

in Avast's 'SSL accounts' setting wasn't sufficient info.

This is the error message(s) (same for each nicolaford domain email account) from OE, Avast gives none:

Account: '*@nicolaford', Server: 'mail.nicolaford.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Cannot connect to POP server 94.76.229.85 (94.76.229.85:995), connect error 10013', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

Does anyone have any ideas please?

In the error message it shows that your connection attempt is trying to use port 110 with no SSL which conflicts with the settings you've said (port 995 via SSL) so I think something is incorrectly configured. I'd suggest taking another look through the configuration of your mail client and antivirus, initially it may be helpful to disable the AV altogether to establish if this is the cause of the problem.

Regards,

Darryl

Hi Darryl, tried what you said, it's not Avast. But then I remembered I am running PeerBlock (for a few weeks)...I turned that off and hey presto email downloads again. Not sure why it should have decided to do that now?

Thanks for your help. I will look into it some more at the weekend when I have the time to 'mess about'. There might be a setting in PeerBlock that allows OE access. Cheers.

Ah right fair enough, glad to hear that you found out what was causing this and it's working for you now

Darryl
