Unable to send email via Outlook 2003

Hi all. I'm at a conference, using an unsecured wifi connection & Oultook2003. I'm receiving email OK, but can't send. I get an error message that says:

Task 'manthorp.co.uk - Sending' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

I've set SMTP as mail.manthorp.co.uk, ticked that the server requires authentication using the same settings as the incoming. Outgoing server port is 465 - I've also tried 25.

Does anybody have any thoughts about what's wrong and how I can solve it?

I'm a bit stuck if I can't email.

Hi,

Port 25 may be blocked, try sending on port 26.

Thanks Andrew, that fixed it. Why would port 25 be blocked, just out of interest?

Hi,

That's blocked by some ISPs in an attempt to stop spam emanating from their networks.
