Webalizer to be disabled, changes to AWStats

Webalizer

We have decided to disable, from Midnight tonight, the Webalizer statistical program. We have also decided to change the way AWStats works.

Webalizer will be going for these reasons:

Less accurate than AWStats
Very CPU intensive, it is less efficient than AWStats
Produces no stats that AWStats does not
Doesn't work as intuitively as AWStats (including your own sites domain in the list of referrers for example)
Doesn't produce as beautiful a stats as AWStats

Therefore we find it superfluous to be running two stats programs, when one is better in every respect to the other.

AWStats

AWStats will no longer be running automatically every night. There will now be the option for you to update your stats when you want them updated. This is in direct response to multiple user requests for this feature. This is a benefit to all of us as it gives you more control, but it also means CPU cycles aren't wasted crunching logs for users who have no interest in seeing their stats.

Please note section 4.5 of out TOS/AUP

Excessive updating of your stats could, for some users, cause them to breach this part of our TOS and appropriate action will be taken (including but not limited to disabling stats/accounts completely). Please use this feature sensibly, if you want to see your very latest visitors use the Latest Visitors tool, not AWStats for example.

Due to the nature of these changes the "Update now" button will only appear over the next two days, and the reduced load on the server wont be apparent for two days also (as one more automated run needs to take place for both Webalizer and AWStats).

Due to the way cPanel operates there were some issues with this new approach. For the time being AWStats has been turned back on in the traditional way e.g. every evening it will run. This will result in extra load during the early hours of the morning.
